FABB's Board of Directors is the governing body of the nonprofit who focus on the strategy, oversight, and accountability of the organization. These volunteers oversee the day-to-day operations and activity of FABB. The board is also responsible for ensuring that the organization operates within legal and ethical guidelines.
Emily Mayer is a former public school teacher and currently works as the senior manager at The Ford & Ford Group where she spends much of her time teaching folks how to advocate within their community. Emily Mayer is a former public school teacher and currently works as the senior manager at The Ford & Ford Group where she spends much of her time teaching folks how to advocate within their community. She was one of the speakers at the very first school board meeting upon the removal of our 97 titles, before FABB even existed! She lives in Bluffton with her husband, Phil, their two daughters and their dog, with one last human baby on the way. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to lead FABB into the next chapter of greatness.

Mary Foster has been part of FABB since it began and is a professional educator with a degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University. She has taught elementary and preschool students in a variety of settings for most of the last 27 years and currently owns a licensed preschool which she operates from her home. When she is not teaching, Mary spends most of her time advocating locally and at the state level regarding education-related issues as well as LGBTQ+ rights. She also loves to read! Mary and her husband have been married for 27 years and they have 2 children. Their son Knox attends the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and their daughter Elizabeth attends Georgetown University.

Carey is deeply committed to supporting the public school system as she is married to a public school teacher and has seven children who were all educated in Beaufort County public schools. Carey is in-house corporate counsel, who previously served for five years on the Board of the Beaufort County Bar Association.Carey is licensed to practice law in South Carolina, Virginia and the Fourth District Court of Appeals. She earned her law degree at Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Gettysburg College.

With extensive experience in marketing, public relations, and nonprofit fundraising, she has spent much of her career helping organizations and businesses grow and thrive. A Beaufort resident since 2011, Betsy is an avid book lover (especially mysteries!) and a passionate supporter of fighting censorship by supporting FABB's mission and advocating the right to access diverse ideas.
